Mohammed Al Tayyeb scored two goals as Al Hidd beat Malkiya 2-1 in the final last night to claim the first Elite Football Cup.
Malkiya opened the scoring in the title clash at Bahrain National Stadium in Isa Town when Isra Amer struck just one minute from the start.
Al Hidd eqaulised in the 37th through Al Tayyeb as the first half ended 1-1.
Al Tayyeb scored the second goal for Al Hidd just three minutes after resumption.
Bahrain Football Association vice-president Shaikh Khalid bin Salman Al Khalifa presented the silver medals to Malkiya team members and the cup, along with the gold medals, to Al Hidd players.
Al Hidd, who finished sixth in the league this season, shocked everyone in this competition by topping Group ‘B’ in the first round with four points. They defeated Manama 3-2 and drew with Al Najma 2-2, before overpowering league champions Muharraq 2-0 in the semi-final.
Malkiya, who finished third in the league, topped Group ‘A’ in the first round with six points. They defeated Muharraq 2-1 and Al Shabab 2-1 and went on to beat Al Najma 2-0 in the semi-final.
The tournament, organised by Bahrain Football Association, was played by the top six teams of the Bahrain NBB First Division Football League.
