Thirteen illegally-modified cars were seized and their drivers arrested in raids conducted in Shinas and Suhar.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) launched the clampdown in a bid to crackdown drifting which endangers road users’ safety and curb the unauthorized modification of vehicles, reported Oman Observer.
A ROP statement posted online said that the stunt drivers who were arrested pending investigation included Gulf nationals, adding that they would be referred to the Public Prosecution to be charged.
Under the traffic provisions, car drifting using such illegally-modified vehicles amounts ta criminal activity which is punishable by the law.
Drivers who perform drifting stunts on roads can face jail terms of up to three months and be fined RO 500. Scores of drivers have been arrested and their vehicles seized for accidents.
