Kuwait City: The increasing rate of divorce is becoming an alarming issue in Kuwait.
According to latest official statistics, 22 married couples broke up on an average every day during the first quarter of 2018, reported Alqabas.
The report also shows that 33 couples got married on an average daily from January to March.
A total of 2,995 marriage contracts were signed during the same three-month period, while the number of divorces stood at 1,985.
An official source quoted by Alqabas said that social media websites were the main cause of divorce over the past few years in Kuwait.
The source warned against the negative repercussions of the alarming increase in divorce rate on the stability of families and children.
The increasing proportion of divorces also inundates courts with lawsuits filed for alimony and children’s custody.
