Al Aker Club proved too strong for Al Dair Club, thrashing them 4-0 in a Group 2 match of the Khalid bin Hamad Futsal League held at Khalifa Sports City on Thursday.
The winners’ goalkeeper Mohammed Ibrahim managed to valiantly defend his goal, and his efforts helped him win the man of the match award.
Bani Jamra also netted four goals against Bani Jamra in Group 1, but the latter scored a consolation goal to end the match 4-1. Ibrahim Yousif had two goals to his name and was named the man of the match.
In another Group 1 clash, Buri Club scored a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Al Ma’ameer Club.
In the last match of the day, Tubli Club came from 0-2 to hold Barbar Club who surprisingly squandered their comfortable lead. Sayed Mousa Jaffar was named the man of the match.
Guests at the league, being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman, Bahrain Athletics Association president and Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities honorary president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, described the role being played by Shaikh Khalid as a pivotal and said it would contribute to the revitalisation of sport. The guests included SCYS member and Bahrain Snooker and Billiards Federation chairman Dr Saeed Al Yamani, media personnel Hisham Abu Al Fath and football pundit Abdulrahman Al Maliki.
Dr Al Yamani, expressed his pride in the efforts of Shaikh Khalid to develop and promote the youth and sports sectors in the kingdom. Al Fath pointed out that Shaikh Khalid has introduced many initiatives for the development of sports. “These initiatives are unprecedented at the local level, especially the establishment of a league that brings together six categories of society,” he said.
