Middle East – Alleged statements attributed by the Qatari media to German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen were denied.
Riyadh-based German Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a statement on its official account, refuting recent Qatari media reports which claim that the tiny emirate will expand its role in the NATO.
The statement, which was published in both Arabic and English on July 13, debunked the Qatari media claims, which were published in Qatari newspaper, “Al Sharq”.
Qatari “Gulf Times” and Aljazeera TV Channel have also carried the false statements, claiming that Von der Leyen had called the Arab quartet boycott of Qatar a “conspiracy”.
The Qatari media reports alleged on behalf of the German minister of defence that Doha would acquire a bigger role in the NATO.
The fake media reports alleged that the German minister thanked Qatar for its participation and stance with the EU states and the NATO and expressed solidarity with Doha as a “victim of the Saudi and regional boycott”.
