Bahrain joined other parts of the globe as they celebrated the 2018 Olympic Day at Isa Sports City’s track in Riffa City, with hundreds of participants turning up for the 3km social race.
More than 300 athletes of different ages and nationalities took part in this day-long festivities, organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Bahrain Athletics Association’s Bahrain Road Runners (BRR).
The event featured a 3km race, which started from the sports halls of Shaikh Isa Sports City in Riffa as all participants received t-shirts with a printed ‘Olympic Day’ logo, while the organising committee provided water enroute. All the participants also received certificates of recognition at the end of the race.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar led the participants at the run.
“We hope to build on the excitement and interest generated by Olympic Day to really promote the Olympic values and encourage people to adopt sport into their everyday lives,” said Askar after the event.
Askar added that this occasion observes the Olympic values of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship.
He also extended his gratitude to all those who contribute to making this event possible, including the Ministry of Information Affairs, the Ministry of Health and national sports federations.
