Abu Dhabi – An elderly man, aged 69, died after a fire broke out in his house in the emirate of Ajman.
The blaze which gutted the family’s flat has also claimed the lives of two of the man’s grandchildren, aged four and two years.
A passerby alerted the authorities after spotting smoke billowing from a flat in the fourth floor of a 6-storey residential building in Al Rashidiya district.
The grandfather and his two grandchildren were rushed to the Shaikh Khalifa Hospital where they died due to the smoke they had inhaled.
Deputy Director General of Ajman Civil Defence department, Brigadier Rashid Jassim Majlad urged people, including building owners, to install fire alarms.
