The Second Charity Race for Disabled Individuals was organised by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation, in cooperation with the Bahrain Triathlon Federation.
Under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy president, and Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation honourary president, the event was held behind the Bahrain National Stadium.
The race was in line with Shaikh Khalid’s initiatives to integrate disabled people with all segments of society.
The event included a 3km general race for hearing and visually impaired contestants and those with mild mental and learning disabilities. Participants with motor disabilities and cerebral palsy were on bicycles and handcycles. It also included a 1km race for the 11-13-year-olds, a 100m race for children aged 6-8 years, a 500m race for 9-10 age groups, and a final 200m race for individuals with Down Syndrome and mental disability.
Shaikh Khalid praised the efforts made by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation headed by Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, for the race, the first of its kind in Bahrain.
He affirmed his support for disabled individuals as part of His Majesty the King’s directives to integrate them in nation building.
