Two-time IMMAF world champion Jose “Shorty” Torres arrived in the Kingdom of Bahrain on Sunday to support the Brave International Combat Week.
Brave Combat Federation is holding the event until Sunday at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
Also champion in two-weight categories at Titan FC and KHK MMA fighter, Torres will be one of the commentators at the 2018 World Championship.
During the opening ceremony, Torres extended his support to KHK Heroes which is the latest initiative under Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
He gave the differently abled Mohammed Buhaz’a a warm embrace moments after the former beat Shaikh Khalid in a friendly bout.
“The resilience of Buhaz’a overwhelms me. It doesn’t matter who you are and where you come from, you are as big as your heart and strong as your will to achieve your dream,” said Torres.
The flyweight fighter Torres has previously trained extensively in Bahrain at KHK MMA and was among the first fighters to join the team.
Torres is the only athlete to claim two IMMAF world championship gold medals, in addition to a pair of UMMAF national championship victories and various regional titles. This in addition to an imposing 25-1 amateur record, which makes Torres the most decorated amateur fighter to have ever competed under the IMMAF banner.
