Al Hala shocked defending champions Al Najma 3-2 in the quarter-final round first leg of the King’s Cup competition held last night at Muharraq Club Stadium.
Al Hidd defeated East Riffa 1-0 in the second match.
Al Hala will now have good chance in the second leg to qualify for the semi-final, while Al Najma need to win by two goals difference in the second leg to advance.
Al Najma scored first through defender Samuel’s own goal. Al Hala equalised in the 45th minute through Yahya Infeehi, as the first half ended 1-1.
Al Hala grabbed the lead for the first time in the 65th minute through Abbas Al Sari, but Al Najma equalised in the 71st minute through Ali Madan.
Samuel then took charge as he scored in the injury time to wrap the victory for Al Hala.
In the other match, Al Hidd had to score a late goal to beat East Riffa in their first leg match.
Al Hidd’s match-winning goal came in the last five minutes with Mohammed Abdulwahab hitting a brilliant free kick.
The second leg matches for both games is scheduled to be played on Saturday. The winners will qualify for the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Riffa will take on Al Shabab at 5.30pm while Muharraq will face Manama at 8pm tonight at Bahrain National Stadium pitch.
