Defending champions Lagoona Beach will take on Marriott Hotel at 5.30pm today in the semi-final of the Third Hotels Futsal Tournament 2018 at Al Hidd Club Sports Hall in Muharraq.
At 6.30pm, The Westin will face Wyndham Garden Hotel.
Lagoona qualified for the semi-final after topping Group ‘A’ with a perfect nine points. They defeated all their opponents in the first round, 16-3 against Four Seasons, 6-2 against Wyndham Garden and 10-2 against ART Rotana. On the other hand, Marriott advanced in to the next round as Group ‘B’ runners-up with six points. They won against Golden Tulip 8-7 and The Grove 8-2, and lost to The Westin 5-4.
Exciting
The match between Westin and Wyndham Garden is expected to be exciting as they are top favourites to be in the final this year.
The Westin topped Group ‘A’ with seven points after defeating Marriot 5-4 and The Grove 4-3, and holding Golden Tulip to a 3-3 draw.
Wyndham Garden finished second in Group ‘A’ with six points behind Lagoona Beach. Wyndham Garden lost one match against Lagoona Beach 6-2, but won against ART Rotana 10-4 and against Four Seasons 5-0.
The winners of both matches will qualify for the final of this year’s tournament, which is set to be played next Wednesday at the Bahrain Handball Association court in Umm Al Hassam.
The losers will play for the third and fourth positions.
Meanwhile, the last day of the first round saw The Westin team draw with Golden Tulip 3-3. Golden Tulip had needed to win the match to qualify for the semi-final.
Golden Tulip were leading 3-2 until the last few minutes, when The Westin managed to equalise sending the former out of the tournament.
Ahmed Al A’ali scored all three goals for The Westin, while Abdul Mohsin, Jassim Mohammed and Hadi Abdulla scored for Golden Tulip.
In the other match, Wyndham Garden won after Four Seasons failed to show up in their match.
In the last match, Marriot defeated The Grove 8-2 to finish second in Group ‘B’. The Grove’s goals were scored by Mohammed Shalaby with three, along with Mahmood Al Qaidoom who had two, and a goal each from Mahmoud M., Harouna J. and Samuel Toili.
