Abu Dhabi: In line with the global health standards, the Ministry of Education has banned nine types of food items from being sold at all school canteens across the UAE.
The move aims to help schools mould students' dietary and nutritional needs.
The list of banned food, which was distributed to schools, includes hot dogs and processed meats, indomie, chocolate bars, sweets, lollipops and jelly.
The list also includes chocolate spreads, peanut products, potato chips and corn chips, carbonated drinks (including energy drinks, flavoured water, juice, iced teas, slushies and eskimo drinks).
All cream cakes and doughnuts have also been banned from schools for their high fat and sugar content and artificial colours.
