Dammam – A court in the Eastern Proving has sentenced a Saudi woman to 15 years in jail for smuggling drugs from Kuwait.
The smuggler, who is in her thirties, will also receive 500 lashes, and is banned from travelling for 15 years after serving her jail term.
The Court of Appeals in Dammam convicted the woman of attempting to smuggle 20,000 amphetamine pills through Al-Raqai entry point on the border between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The customs employees caught the woman after discovering the pills concealed in her jeans she was wearing as she was trying to enter Saudi Arabia.
She claimed that a man living in Kuwait blackmailed her into smuggling the pills by threatening to post her intimate pictures online. She also admitted that she would get SR30,000 if she succeeded in the operation.
