The Bahrain Football Association (BFA) has announced that Portuguese Helio Sousa will be the new national football team coach.
He is replacing Miroslav Soukup after the Czech’s contract had expired right after the AFC Asian Cup which concluded in the UAE last month.
According to the BFA official Instagram account, BFA president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has met with Sousa and agreed to terms to take over the national team.
The 50-year-old Sousa was former coach of Portugal Under-19 national team, and helped them win the European Championship in 2018. He also steered Portugal to the European Championship U-17 title in 2016.
Sousa is expected to lead the team in the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifying stage.
