The Yemeni Parliament today held the first session in Seiyun in the eastern province of Hadhramaut since the Houthi militia coup in 2015.
President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi attended the session during which General People’s Congress (GPC) party chief Sultan Al Burkani was elected the new Speaker.
The session was attended by 141 members, as well as international envoys and security personnel, Asharq Al Awsat newspaper reported.
The new speaker accused the Houthis of turning the capital Sana'a into a place of chaos, asking officials to resume work at the temporay capital in the port city of Aden.
Addressing the session, President Hadi said that four months had elapsed since the Stockholm agreement was reached but no progress has so far been achieved.
President of the Arab Parliament Mishaal bin Fahm Al Salami attended the session and called on the international community to condemn Houthi violations.
