BAHRAIN’S Dazza Almahjoub won the men’s race while compatriot Shitaye Eshete was the runner-up in the women’s in the prestigious Volkswagen Prague Marathon.
Almahjoub powered to the finish two hours five minutes and 58 seconds. It was the second-fastest time in the race’s history.
The Bahraini was 20 seconds ahead of Ethiopian runner-up Wolde Dawit while Bantiye Aychew, also of Ethiopia, was third in 2:06:23.
In the women’s race, Bahrain’s Shitaye could not match the record-setting pace of winner Lonah Salpeter of Israel, who broke the course record en route to taking first place.
Salpeter won in 2:19:46, beating the old course record of 2:21:57. Shitaye was second in 2:22:39 while Yalew Genet of Ethiopia was third in 2:24:34.
