BAHRAIN’S Abdulla Ali yesterday finished 24th overall in the men’s open category of the Third Philippine International Bowling Championship in Manila.
Ali reached a total 1,376 in his eight-game series for a 172 average.
His high for the day was 203, his only plus-200 effort, in the second game and a low of 154 in the fifth. The top three from the second round moved on to the step-ladder finals.
Merwin Tan of the Philippines finished on top in the second round with figures of 1,887 and 235.88 and he was joined in the step-ladder finals by the Indonesian pair Billy Islam (1,815 and 226.88) and Ryan Lalisang (1,747 and 218.38).
Narrowly missing out on a place in the final was defending champion Sam Cooley of Australia, who finished just four pins behind Lalisang with a 217.88 average.
Striking
Also coming close and within striking distance of the top three were Muhd Jaris Goh (1,733, 216.63) of Singapore and Hardy Rachmadian (1,728, 216.00) of Indonesia, who completed the top six.
In the step-ladder, Islam beat Lalisang 267-243 to set up a title-deciding match-up against Tan, who eventually was crowned champion with a 237-193 victory.
Bahrain-based Philippine national team bowler Emerson Gotencio also qualified for yesterday’s second round but could not play.
