Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has issued directions for a new sports medicine hospital.
Construction of the new facility, which will provide treatment and sports rehabilitation services to athletes and the public, will begin shortly.
This was announced at the sixth meeting of the BOC board of directors, chaired by Shaikh Khalid and attended by secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf, permanent board member Abdulrahman Askar and other board members.
Al Nusuf announced that a counseling firm will be chosen to manage the project.
The meeting also confirmed the Khalid bin Hamad Elite Scholarship Programme, which aims to attract Bahrain’s elite athletes who will undergo physical, psychological and skills tests before being included in another programme to become eligible to represent the kingdom at the 2024 and 2028 Olympics.
