A COLOURING book has been released to educate young people in Bahrain about the importance of sustainable energy.
The book, Solar Energy: Colouring Book for Little Engineers, was produced by Bahraini Yousif Amin, a retired engineer who hopes to spark an interest in key topics through his colouring books.
As children progress through the pages, they are taken on a step-by-step learning journey that explains Bahrain’s sustainable energy vision and theory, along with solar energy generation methods and the different types of solar panels.
The book also showcases how to calculate the power for use at homes and features quizzes, experiments and a solar house paper construction project.
Mr Amin, 61, presented the book to Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza last month and has pledged distribution support among schools in the country.
“(Dr Mirza) has given his full support to see the book distributed very soon to schools, and so we are working on it in association with his team,” he said.
“I want to educate children on the importance of sustainable energy for their future and for them to be aware very fast of pollution danger and from where it is coming from to stop using its sources.
“This is a worldwide objective driven by the United Nations.
“We have the sun and wind and more as clean energy sources for free all year round, so why not utilise them?”
He added that executives from the American Solar Energy have also shown interest in using his colouring book for children in the US.
Production of the colouring book saw Mr Amin hand draw the pictures before converting them into digital drawings, and with the help of his family and friends produced the written content.
“I hope that every kid in Bahrain, the Gulf states and the rest of the world can get hold of it for free to enjoy colouring and learning an important topic for their future survival,” he added.
“I also want to reinvest the small gained income from the books for more activities, such as giving trainings, prizes and rewards to kids for best colouring contributions and more.”
The talented artist turned author created his first children’s book in 2000, titled ‘Learning Success Football’, and he published the first ‘Bahrain Colouring Book’ containing 30 well-known sites in Bahrain for children to colour in and get to know better.
All the books have a common goal; to educate young minds on key topics.
