Abu Dhabi: The authority in Abu Dhabi has named a key avenue after former French President Jacques Chirac.
Abu Dhabi Executive Council and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed inaugurated the street in tribute to late President Chirac for his efforts to bolster French-UAE ties during his presidency.
Late French president’s daughter, Claude Chirac, UAE officials and diplomats attended the inauguration of the avenue, which leads to the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum.
A ceremony was held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum to put up pictures of President Chirac along with the UAE founder and first president Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The French leader died last September aged 86. He served as president during the period running from 1995 until 2007 – becoming the longest-serving French president after WWII.
