Kuwait City: A Kuwaiti university teacher has been remanded in jail pending trial over involvement in fake academic degrees.
The Public Prosecution charged the woman with forging her BA, MA and PhD degrees and urged that she be kept at the central prison.
The accused admitted using her fake academic degrees, which she had obtained from an Arab country after paying a huge amount of money, to teach at the university of four years.
The Arab expat who enabled her to obtain the fake degrees also helped her get the official accreditation of her academic qualifications.
The judge at the Public Prosecution remanded her to prison pending trial after she had failed to pay back KD117,000 in salaries to the state treasury.
According to Al Qabas, the criminal investigation authorities will summon other suspects over involvement in fake academic degrees for investigation.
On the same lines, Al Anba newspaper said that criminal authorities had completed their investigation into 100 Kuwaiti nationals, including women and military personnel, suspected of holding fake academic degrees over the past three weeks and referred their cases to the Public Prosecution.
Most of the fake qualifications were for business management, law and commerce degrees.
