Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has hailed Bahrain’s efforts to combat the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) in the kingdom.
Shaikh Khalid was speaking as he chaired a meeting with officials in the youth and sports sector via video call to discuss steps to implement the directives of His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to fight Covid-19, in line with the government’s recommendations.
The meeting was attended by leading figures in the youth and sports sector, including SCYS secretary-general Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Aymen bin Tawfeeq Al Moayed, SCYS assistant secretary-general Dr Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Bahrain Olympic Committee secretary-general Mohammed Hassan Al Nisf and Mohammed Hamad Al Ajmi, advisor to the SCYS chairman.

Thanking the officials for their efforts in implementing the precautionary measures to combat the pandemic, Shaikh Khalid said, “I would like to value the efforts being made by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier to tackle the spread of the coronavirus. The Crown Prince has been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and health of all the citizens and residents in the kingdom.
“We will maintain our efforts to implement Shaikh Nasser’s directives and instructions to protect the society from this virus and raise awareness of the disease.”
Shaikh Khalid also hailed the response of the sportspeople in Bahrain to the implementation of the precautionary measures, saying, “It’s the responsibility of everyone to ensure such measures are implemented. We have to show unity and solidarity in these circumstances.”
Shaikh Khalid praised the decision of the International Olympic Committee to adjourn the Olympic Games until the summer of next year, hailing the approval of Japan’s government in this regard.
The officials, on their part, hailed Shaikh Khalid’s efforts in battling the spread of Covid-19.
