The Coronavirus has hit humanity like a bolt from the blue. It has hit us all without warning.
We all agree there are serious repercussions on everyone but what is alarming is that many are still not convinced about the seriousness of what is going on.
The disease has hit everyone – rich and poor – and this itself is unprecedented in terms of disease outbreaks in the recent or distant past.
But as I have always said, everything has its positive and negative sides – but this epidemic has more negatives, which have led to thousands of fatalities around the world. But let us look at the positives.
The virus, or Covid-19 as it is called, has affected personal relationships for the individual and the family and from the number of messages we receive on social media it is clear people are beginning to adapt to the new lifestyle and a new way of living.
Family relations have seen a rebirth of sorts because all members of the family are at home and interacting with one another much more than they ever did. There is also now time to read, write and engage in other hobbies like watching television, listening to music, enjoying the latest movies and doing other beautiful things that we had been missing all these years.
In addition, we are also personally arranging everything in the house, including food, clothing, and drink. We now know the priorities of our lives.
I have always been a firm critic of the culture of eating outside and now, because of this new situation, we are all cooking food at home to ensure cleanliness and also to save unnecessary expense.
And being in the midst of these difficult circumstances, we have begun to enjoy what we have and have become more appreciative of the little things. In these times, we should all be realistic and at the same time enjoy our time doing a lot of useful things.
A friend of mine recently discovered he had a flair for drawing and he came to know only when he decided to take up doing it. Suddenly, he discovered he was full of talent and creative. He now loves what he’s doing.
I’m sure we all have such hidden talents and we will now get an opportunity to show them off. There are also a lot of positives, especially those related to the environment, pollution, road accidents, street congestion and other similar issues. We have all learnt a harsh lesson and continue to do so.
