Al Noor girls yesterday clinched the 3-on-3 basketball secondary stage title at the third School Mini Olympics.
A 7-4 win over the New Millennium School-1 in the final at the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation Gym fetched Al Noor the gold medal. Al Hidd secured the bronze, thanks to a comfortable 8-0 win over Khawla.
Earlier, Al Noor reached the final with a 10-1 demolition of Khawla while New Millennium-1 beat Al Hidd 4-1 in the semi-finals.
Um Kulthoom, meanwhile, captured the girls’ intermediate stage title, followed by the Indian School and Sacred Heart, who were second and third, respectively.
In the boys’ events, AMA International School-1 took the secondary stage title beating Kanoo International School-2 16-6 in the final at the Bahrain Basketball Association Hall in Um Al Hassam. AMA-2 rounded off the podium after a 9-5 win over Kanoo-1 in the third-place tie.
Awal School-1 followed suit, beating Othman bin Affan 14-10 for the boys’ intermediate stage gold medal. Abdulrahman Al Nasser School edged Al Raja 15-8 to secure the bronze medal.
Awal made it to the final after defeating Abdulrahman Al Nasser 10-3, while Othman bin Affan eased past Al Raja 13-3.
The day also featured the third round of group stage matches of the boys’ football championships. Four matches each in the boys’ intermediate and secondary stages were played at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa, where Al Noor registered a resounding 10-0 victory over New Millennium in the secondary stage tie.
In other matches, Al Naseem beat the Indian School 2-0, Isa Town defeated Al Hidaya Al Khalifia 3-0 and Al Taawon eased to a 4-0 win over Al Wisam.
In the intermediate stage, AMA scored a whopping 5-0 win over Multinational, the British School beat New Millennium 6-0 and Riffa drew goalless with the Indian School.
The two-day taekwondo competitions begin today at 8am at the Bahrain Handball Association’s gym in Um Al Hassam.
Mini Olympics action continues today with the opening rounds of the boys’ and girls’ taekwondo championships at the Bahrain Handball Association’s gym at Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
More than 3,000 students, representing 16 government and 18 private schools, are competing in the third edition of the Mini Olympics. The event is being organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
A record nine sports events are taking place this year, including three team sports – football, basketball and volleyball. The remaining sports are athletics, aquathlon, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and athletics for disabled.
