Busaiteen player Leandson Dias da Silva ‘Rico’ confirmed his desire to stay at the club despite being relegated from the Bahrain Football League First Division.
Busaiteen failed to win their last league game against Manama which saw them officially relegated to the second division during the last game week.
“It’s the first time in my career that I get relegated with the team, so I want to help the team get back to first division again, but whether they renew my contract or not is up to them,” Brazilian Rico said.
Rico, 35, has played for five clubs in Bahrain starting out a five season career at Muharraq before moving to Riffa, Manama, Al Hidd, and finally Busaiteen.
Rico also discussed his team’s performances during the season and highlighted lack of experience as a key factor to their relegation.
“Busaiteen have a number of good players in the team. However, they are too young and lack experience,” He said.
“When I go up to play against defenders I am always marked by three players; but the lack of experience means my teammates won’t easily capitalise on it,” Rico said.
Rico signed a five-month contract with Busaiteen in January and awaits a renewal.
However, should he not agree to a deal with Busaiteen Rico could play for a different club in the kingdom.
“This is football and this is professionalism. If they agree a deal with me I will definitely play for another year but if not, well, I love Bahrain so I will look forward to playing for another team here,” Rico said.
Rico is also set to agree terms with a team at Shaikh Nasser’s Ramadan Tournament Nasser 9. He will announce his team once everything is confirmed.
