Former Bahrain National team coach and current Al Hidd coach Salman Sharida said more achievements were in store for the club after winning the league title for the first time.
Al Hidd claimed the league title with a 10-point difference over Al Muharraq having gone undefeated for the full campaign.
“I’ve been at Al Hidd since the second half of the last season and my only goal was that this team changes its strategies. Al Hidd is not a team that should just participate in tournaments – they should be winning them. I am sure more achievements are in store,” Sharida said.
Sharida said the first trophy during his tenure with the club was of utmost significance because it led to more success.
“The first step to that was getting hold of a trophy. Last season we were close to winning the league but Muharraq won it with a one-point difference. That one point which cost us the league was our motivation to winning the King’s Cup.
“From there we went on to win the Federation Cup and the Super Cup. All these successes in one season was an amazing feeling for the players and made them who they are today. Our first trophy last year is the reason we became champions now because we built on it.”
Sharida was all praise of his players, especially First Division League star Mohammed Al Rumaihi who topped the ranks with 17 goals to his name.
“I had coached Al Rumaihi when I was with the Olympic national team, so I know what kind of player he is,” Sharida said. “The day I met him, I told him that I want him to represents his country at the top level.”
Al Rumaihi got his first team call up earlier this season when Bahrain faced Yemen and Uzbekistan in the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asia Cup qualifiers.
“Every player needs a certain kind of treatment and I managed to get the best out of Al Rumaihi because I’m familiar with him. He is a good striker and can score goals from dead balls. He still has potential to improve and I only wish he goes forward from here,” Sharida said.
