Ahmed Joda yesterday extended his dominant show at the 2016 Olympic Day festivities organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee.
The 31-year-old Bahraini won his fourth straight race in the 15 and above men and women category, held in cooperation with Bahrain Roadrunners at Muharraq Governorate’s Dohat Arad Park.
Joda was again in peak form and beat Amer Ahmed Isa for the gold medal while Yousef Ahmed Al Qahtan bagged the bronze.
Eight races were held on the day with more than 200 participants taking part in hot and humid conditions and hundreds of more spectators following the action.
The remaining races were held in the following categories: 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14.
Kaltham Elyasi won the gold in the women’s 15 and above race. She finished well ahead of runner-up Maryam Mattar and Sara Zuayyed, who finished third.
The event was attended by Muharraq governor Salman bin Isa bin Hindi, BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and other senior representatives from both authorities.
Bin Hindi thanked all participants for taking part in the event and congratulated the winners. On his part, Askar thanked Al Khalaf International, dealers of Fayrouz malt drink, for sponsoring the 2016 Olympic Day activities and Bahrain Road Runners for assisting the committee in organising the races.
Supervising the race were Bahrain Road Runners vice-chairman Mohsin Al Sharif, race director Abdulla Majeed, treasure Abbas Mousa, head of marshals Faisal Al Fadli and Ali Anbar and Ebrahim Abbas.
The 2016 Olympic Day activities got underway on May 14 with the Northern Governorate race in Budaiya, the Capital Governorate held the second event on May 17 in Manama.
The third race was staged at Awali Walkway by the Southern Governorate while the fifth and concluding event will take place at Bahrain International Circuit tomorrow from 4pm to 9pm.
