Book: Summer at Tiffany’s, Author: Karen Swan
A book that you won’t be able to put down, Summer at Tiffany’s is a win for your holiday reading list.
Written by Karen Swan, this novel is the sequel to Christmas at Tiffany’s, which I haven’t read and yet I still enjoyed Summer at Tiffany’s as a standalone thanks to strong characterisation and excellent story development.
You will find there is enough information about the past to engage with the characters and understand why they feel or act the way they do.
There was never a dull moment throughout this novel and I was captivated by the characters’ lives as everything began to unfold.
In particular, it was nice to read something less predictable than the fall in love, get married and live happily ever after storyline.
Cassie’s relationship with Henry is anything but perfect and we get to see the reality of the situation rather than the picture perfect setting.
Something that struck me was how much Cassie could be likened to Carrie from Sex and the City, she is very self-reflective and contemplative when it comes to relationships and is likeable for her populated life, friends and tendency for drama to follow her wherever she goes.
I also liked Cassie and Gem’s relationship – here you have one woman who has been through a lot and is trying to help Gem understand that rushing into things might not always be the best decision.
The varied mixture of characters that surround Cassie during her time in Cornwall, UK, with Gem adds flare to the novel and she discovers more about herself along the way.
A lovely English summer adventure, Summer at Tiffany’s comes highly recommended from me, so don’t forget to pick up a copy before heading off on your holidays or spending the weekend by the pool.
Summer at Tiffany’s by Karen Swan is available from Jashanmal in City Centre Bahrain or Seef Mall for BD5.400.
Plus, I loved Ms Swan’s writing so much I am going to continue on my summer reading theme next month with one of her earlier novels The Summer Without You, so watch this space.
