An international Delta Air Lines flight turned around after maggots started falling on passengers.
The flight departing from Amsterdam and headed to Detroit turned around an hour into the journey after maggots reportedly fell onto economy class passengers from an overhead cabin.
The source of the maggots was allegedly a suitcase containing rotten fish stored in the overhead bin which broke open.
Once the airplane landed in Amsterdam, the cabin was cleaned and the suitcase involved disposed of.
Airline staff were able to identify the owner of the suspect suitcase and detained them on the plane after other passengers got off.
It was not disclosed if the owner was fined or if any action was taken.
Passengers who were inconvenienced during this incident were compensated with 8,000 air miles, hotel room compensation and a $30 meal ticket if they were delayed overnight from continuing their travels.
Per Delta’s website, the airline states that it is "not responsible for any perishable item that spoils or goes bad while in transit”.
