BOCCIA – TEAM Bahrain will be represented by five Para athletes this week in the Manama 2024 World Boccia Challenger, being held as part of this year’s World Boccia calendar.
Boccia is a Paralympic precision ball sport, where participants throw, kick, or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court with the aim of getting closest to a ‘jack’ ball.
The kingdom’s event is bringing together seventy Para athletes representing 14 countries from around the world. They will be competing across five days, starting from today, and culminating with a closing ceremony on Wednesday.
Action will take place daily from 10am to 7pm at Isa Sports City Hall D.
Competition will be held across four categories for both men and women, including the BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4.
Team Bahrain includes four men’s events participants, including Ayman Alheddi in the BC1, Sayed Ali Alwadaie and Sayed Hazim Qarooni in BC2, and Isa Marjan in BC4. Noof Desmal will be flying the kingdom’s flag in the BC3 class amongst the women competitors.
The event is being organised and run by the Bahrain Paralympic Committee (BPC).
It is the first of four major Paralympic sports meetings to be held in successive weeks by the BPC in the kingdom.
The others include the first World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships on November 26 and 27, the Bahrain 2024 Para Taekwondo Open on November 29, and then the Bahrain Para Badminton World Circuit 2024 from December 11 to 15.
All the competitions will be taking place at Isa Sports City’s Hall D.
