ATHLETICS – ZEYAD Zuhair Tawfiqi became the first Bahraini and Gulf national to participate as a pacer in the London Marathon on Sunday.
Tawfiqi takes part in races around the world, and this year he served as a pacer in the English capital. The London Marathon is considered one of the major marathons globally, and this year marked its 45th edition with a record-breaking field of nearly 57,000 runners.
Tawfiqi expressed his pride for being selected for this role, which he said is a great honor and a source of pride to represent Bahrain at this prestigious global sporting event, which is one of the oldest marathons in the world.
It is well known that selection for this role is highly meticulous, governed by specific and strict rules, regulations, and criteria set by the race’s organising committee.
As part of the team of pacers, Tawfiqi joined a number of others in helping the marathon’s participants achieve their target time across the 42.2-kilometre distance.
