Riyadh: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received Takeshi Iwaya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh.
The meeting discussed means to enhance the prospects of Gulf-Japanese relations in all domains, particularly in economic areas, promoting trade cooperation, and increasing the volume of exchange to meet common aspirations in advancing economic relations.
The first round of negotiations on the free trade agreement between the GCC and Japan in December 2024 was also reviewed. Albudaiwi highlighted that preparations for holding the second round of negotiations in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, at the end of June had also been reviewed, emphasising that the GCC countries attach special importance to this agreement due to the strong and distinguished relations between the two sides.
