Isra Amer scored in injury time as Malkiya shocked leaders Muharraq 2-1 in the 14th week of the Bahrain NBB First Division Football League played last night at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Later in the day, Manama defeated Al Shabab 2-0. Manama now have 19 points, while Al Shabab remained with 16 points.
Muharraq came into the game needing only one point to become league champions. Their fans and supporters were already celebrating after the score stood at 1-1 going into the last minute of the injury time.
However, Amer came through with an injury time goal to seal Muharraq’s win and keep their hopes alive to challenge for the league title.
For Muharraq to win the title, they will only need one point from their next three matches against Al Shabab, Al Ahli and Ettihad.
On the other hand, defending champions Malkiya have to win all their remaining games to win the title and hope Muharraq lose all their three remaining games. Muharraq remain on top with 38 points, while Malkiya now have 27 points.
