EGYPTIAN Ahmed Ibrahim claimed the boys’ singles title of the Asian Tennis Federation’s U-16 Championship hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) at its courts in Isa Town.
Ahmed defeated Bahrain’s Essa Alqattan 6-3, 6-0 in the final played on Saturday.
In the girls’ singles final, Uzbekistan’s top seed Yasmina Fatihova beat Bahrain’s Hajar Zaidan 6-3, 6-0. She went on to claim a double with victory in the girls’ doubles partnering Hajar. They defeated Bahraini duo Haneen Al Najjar and Salma Farajallah 6-2, 6-1 in the final on Friday.
Saudi players left their mark on the boys’ doubles competition, when Mujtaba Alramadan and Mohammed Khalil were crowned winners after defeating the Bahraini-Egyptian duo of Shadi Kallel and Ahmed Ibrahim 6-4, 7-5 in a tough encounter, also on Friday.
Meanwhile, Salma took the third place after defeating Leanne Sinocruz, of the Philippines, 7-5, 6-1, while Haneen finished fifth following a walkover from Bahrain’s Mariam Yasser.
BTF secretary-general Fouad Al Ruwaiei, and board members Mohammed Salman and Adnan Kamal presented the trophies to the prize winners.
