An investigation has been launched after a man, whose identity has not been disclosed, jumped from the upper floors of Masjid Al Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the security authority in the Mecca region announced on Tuesday morning.
Necessary measures were followed and the man was taken to the hospital to receive medical care. The Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque have initiated an inquiry.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past in the Holy city. In 2017, a Saudi man attempted to self-immolate in front of the Kaaba.
Three suicides were carried out on separate occasions the following year in 2018. A Frenchman jumped off the roof of a mosque at the start of June, followed by a Bangladeshi man who did the same over a week later. The final suicide occurrence was in August of that year, where an Arab man jumped to his death.
