Baltic Knight emerged the biggest winner in the opening races of the new season at Sakhir yesterday.
Baltic Knight, owned by Al Afoo Racing Stable, trained by Mohammed Hassan and ridden by Alberto Sanna, won the richest race of the day – Late H H Rashid Bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses – which carried a cash prize of BD7,500.
Baltic Knight beat Thorkhill Star by a length and a half, while Silversmith was third and Mantoba ‘B’ fourth.
Mayyaha, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by John Naylor and ridden by Andrew Elliott, edge out Blue Fern by two and a half lengths to claim the Late H H Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD7,000.
Favourite Itizan ‘B’ was third and News Breaker fourth.
Magsood, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by John Naylor and ridden by Alberto Sanna, won the fifth race of the day for locally bred horses that carried a cash prize of BD5,000.
Magsood beat Lazzaz by a neck, while Ghafiya ‘B’ was third and favourite Caped Crusader finished fourth.
Pity Cash, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by John Naylor and ridden by Alberto Sanna, won the handicap race for the Late H H Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses which carried a cash prize BD5,000.
Pity Cash beat favourite Grey Z by a length, with Al Malekiah finishing third and Dodger Marley ‘TT’ taking the fourth spot.
Krayaan 1646, owned by Safra, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Brett Doyle, won the third race of the day for WAHOO horses and claimed the Late H H Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup which carried a cash prize of BD3,000. He beat Mlolshaan 1649 by a neck, with Al Jellaby 1544 finishing third and Al Hamdanieh 1644 fourth.
Tom Hark, owned by Al Nasseriyeh, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, claimed the second race of the day for the Late H H Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD3,500.
Torn Hark beat Let Go Ego by four lengths, while Rogue Wave finished third and Fei Kuai was fourth.
Favourite Shamikh, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by John Naylor and ridden by Alberto Sanna, beat Tishreen by one length to win the Late H H Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for local bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD3,500.
Runway Charlie ‘B’ finished second, while Samleh was fourth.
