A German woman in Dubai who blackmailed her former husband in a bid to extort money has been sentenced to three months in jail.
The Dubai Criminal Court found the 48-year-old guilty of threatening her ex-husband and his current partner with harm, unless they handed over $1.5 billion.
Court records showed that the threats were prompted by family and financial disputes over custody of their children and a jointly owned business.
According to reports, the accused sent several messages to the victim via Telegram and Facebook, demanding that he send the money to a Swiss bank account in her name.
The threats reportedly included statements such as "send the money by Friday, or say goodbye to your mistress,” and “I’m your worst nightmare. I’ve buried three animals, and next could be you and your mistress.”
The accused also allegedly sent a picture of herself standing between two armed men and referenced a game of Russian roulette.
Her ex-husband reported the threats to the authorities and the woman was arrested shortly after.
She was found guilty of violating UAE laws governing cybercrimes and personal safety.
