MOTORSPORT – CAMPOS Racing enjoyed a sensational double last night with victories in Formula One’s two feeder series, held in support of the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.
Spaniard Josep Maria Marti gave the team their win in the Bahrain sprint race of the FIA Formula Two Championship, just hours after Campos’ triumph in the same event of the lower-tier FIA Formula Three Championship with Bulgarian Nikola Tsolov.
Marti secured first place in a thrilling 23-lap race, clinching his second career F2 win. There were a pair of safety car periods and plenty of close, wheel-to-wheel action throughout.
He fought his way through the field after starting from 11th on the grid and only took the lead for good in the race’s final lap. Marti snatched it away from Paraguayan pole-sitter Joshua Durksen of AIX Racing going into the circuit’s first turn, and went on to take the chequered flag in a winning time of 46 minutes 24.663 seconds.
Dutch driver Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport also took advantage of a Durksen error as they charged towards the finish to capture the runner-up spot. He finished 0.922 seconds behind Marti, while Durksen was forced to settle for third 1.537s from the victor.
“Super happy to win the sprint race here in Bahrain,” said Marti, who secured a double podium in the two F2 races at BIC in 2024.
“It’s a circuit that has treated me very nicely in the past, and it did again today.
I’m very happy, we did a perfect race given the circumstances and how the race unfolded, so very happy with it and looking forward for a very good race tomorrow.”
Swede Dino Beganovic of Hitech TGR came fourth in yesterday’s sprint 1.870s adrift, and Verschoor’s German teammate Oliver Goethe came fifth 1.984s back.
Three others came away with points from the race after going fifth through eighth, respectively. They included Marti’s British Campos Racing partner Arvid Lindblad (+3.028s), Mexican Rafael Villagomez (+3.134s) of Van Amersfoort Racing, and Italian Gabriele Mini (+3.321s) of Prema Racing.
This weekend’s F2 action in Bahrain marks the second of its 14-round calendar. The 22-car field will return to action today for the weekend’s F2 feature race, to be held over 32 laps. It is scheduled to flag off at 2.25pm at BIC.
