MOTORSPORT – BAHRAIN’S talented young racing drivers are drawing inspiration from their ‘idols’ at this weekend’s Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025.
The sport’s biggest stars have become household names with F1’s worldwide popularity now at an all-time high, and many are hoping to follow in their footsteps as they work their way up the motorsport ladder.
“I take a lot of inspiration from them, they are my idols,” Bahrain Rotax MAX Challenge (BRMC) Senior MAX champion Tye Mejia told the GDN yesterday. “I really look up to them and I really want to be like them one day.”
Mejia was in the BIC paddock with his friends and fellow racers William Letter, Luca Kane Houghton, and Raoul Sadi. They were treated to a garage tour of reigning constructors’ world champions McLaren during F1’s third practice session.
“Every night, I fall asleep thinking that I can be in one of the seats someday,” said Lette, who is a BRMC Mini MAX competitor. “It shows that you can start from zero and work all the way up to here, and that’s a big inspiration – it makes me feel like everything is possible.”
Houghton praised F1’s star drivers not only for what they do on the track but for their off-track personalities as well.
“It is very nice and I am very fortunate to be here to see them so close,” said Houghton, who competes in the BRMC Senior MAX. “They are all very nice guys – very humble guys – and hopefully we can get here in the future.”
BRMC DD2 MAX competitor Sadi commented: “This is definitely a great experience for us, thanks to my friend William for making it possible.”
The BRMC is the kingdom’s premier national karting championship, held annually at Bahrain International Karting Circuit, the grassroots motorsport facility of Bahrain International Circuit.
Champions of the BRMC represent Bahrain in the annual Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals.
