Dubai: A 24-year-old Canadian model was denied entry into the UAE for being a transgender woman.
Gigi Gorgeous, who legally had her name changed to Gigi Loren Lazzarato in March 2014, was stopped at the immigration and visa office on Tuesday at Dubai International Airport.
According to Dubai airport police, she was detained as her passport identified her as male and the passport photo showed Gigi as a man, reported Mail Online.
Later, she posted a photo on Instagram with caption 'detained and held' for five hours at the airport.
Born as Gregory Allan Lazzarato, she announced in December 2013 that she was a transgender woman.
Gigi is popular for her makeup tutorial videos which she has been doing since 2008. She has more than 2.3 million subscribers and over 290 million views on her YouTube channel.
