THE national youth table tennis team started its campaign in the 2023 West Asian Youth and Junior Table Tennis Tournament for the Asian U-19 Cup qualifiers with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Iraq yesterday.
In the tournament hosted by the Bahrain Table Tennis Association at the BTTA hall, the Bahrain players showed remarkable skills in the match, which lasted more than two and a half hours.
Salman Mohammed beat Ashkan Karazani (3-0), Fadel Abbas defeated Abbas Aqeel (3-0) and Ali Abbas settled the issue by beating Ashkan Karazani (3-1).
In another match, Oman managed to overturn a 0-2 deficit to rally past Palestine (3-2), where Badr Mohamed defeated Islam Yassin 3-0, Ahmed Salim beat Abdullah Al Maghribi by the same margin, and Mohamed Youssef overcame Majid Moussa by 3-1.
The competitions will continue today, with Bahrain taking on Jordan, while Syria play Iraq in the U-19 category, and in the junior section, Qatar clash with Oman, while Palestine take on Iraq.
All matches will be held at the Etihad Hall in Riffa at 5pm.
