Carnivals are supposed to be a fun time for the whole family, but due to their travelling nature, the rides are often built under unsafe conditions.
One such carnival in Punjab, India, saw a carnival ride malfunction and crash, injuring 16 people, including women and children.
A video of the incident shows the ride spinning and slowly ascending, and once it reaches the top, instead of slowly descending, it free falls and crashes into the ground.
10 persons, including children and women, were injured when a high-rise spinning joyride broke down and fell at the Dashera Ground, Phase-8 in Mohali. @ndtv pic.twitter.com/jus2JVc4X9

Organisers of the carnival had permission to operate the event until September 4, but were given an extension to September 11.
"What we have come to know so far is that they had the permission to organise the show. However, no one would be spared if there is mistake committed on their part. Strict action will be taken according to the law," police deputy superintendent Harsimran Singh Bal said.
