FOOTBALL – CHAMPIONS Muharraq were held to a 1-1 draw by East Riffa in a 21st-round match of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League at the Khalifa Sport City Stadium last night.
Elliot Simoes put Muharraq ahead in the 40th minute as they led 1-0 at half-time. Muharraq’s hopes of a victory were dashed in the 77th minute when Daouda Toure scored the equaliser for East Riffa, who defended well to thwart further inroads by Muharraq.
Muharraq lead the standings with 48 points after adding another point to their tally while East Riffa are in the 11th position with 20 points, only above bottom-placed Manama who are on 12.
Meanwhile, in another match last night, Al Shabab and Al Ahli played out a goalless draw.
Al Najma occupy the seventh position with 26 points, followed by Al Ahli, who are on 24.
The 21st round concludes today when second-placed Al Khaldiya take on A’ali and Malkiya face Riffa. Both the matches are scheduled to kick off at 7pm.
