TIME Step clinched the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Cup in the 24th race of the season organised by the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) at its racetrack in Al Raffah yesterday.
The winner, owned by Al Adiyat Racing and ridden by Abdullah Faisal, was followed home by Modmin and Royal Scimitar in second and third places, respectively, in the eighth race of the day over 1,400 metres for imported horses with handicap.
Earlier, the only other Cup event - the seventh race for the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club Cup also for imported horses with handicap, over 2,800m - was won by Tartan Chief, owned by AL Mohamediya Racing and ridden by Neil Callan, with King of the Throne and Rollajam following in that order.
Marhaba Milliar, owned by FF Racing and ridden by Salem Alajmi, won the sixth race for imported horses with handicap over 1,000m, followed by Assel and Rosa Mystica in second and third places, respectively.
The fifth race of the day for locally bred maiden horses over 1,200m straight was won by Magsooda, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, with George and Capricornus finishing second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Erada, owned by MKAR Racing and ridden by Salem Alajmi, claimed the fourth race for locally bred horses with handicap over 2,200m, followed by Mishaweer and Jadlah in that order.
The third race over 1,600m for locally bred class four maiden horses was won by Galatia, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and ridden by Ebrahim Nader, with Scorpius and Hercules taking second and third places, respectively.
Malakye, owned by Al Jasmi Stable and ridden by Hasan Al Saffar, won the second race for maiden imported horses over 1,400m, followed by Rez and Suwad in that order.
The opening race of the day for class 3, 4 and maiden horses WAHO over 1,400m was won by Al Ma’anagy 1846, owned by Al Khaldiya and ridden by Rossie Jessop, with Al Saqlawy 1807 and Mlolshan 1865 taking second and third places, respectively.
REHC’s executive director of organisational affairs Shaikh Salman bin Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa presented the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Cup to the winning trainer Alan Smith, while Youssef Buheji, executive director of operations, presented the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club Cup to Shaikh Nader bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa.
