The undefeated Khamzat Maaev has a lot in common with global superstar Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev, and the Turkish-based fighter plans to use these similarities as motivation to become a household name – just like ‘Borz’ – when he begins his BRAVE Combat Federation journey this month.
Maaev faces Elias Farah in his global debut under the brightest lights of MMA, as he makes his walk on June 19, at BRAVE CF 71.
Not only do Maeev and Chimaev have similar physical features or names, but more than that, they were both born in Chechnya, Russia, before settling in Turkey and Sweden, respectively.
Since making his pro debut, Maaev has captured the imagination of MMA fans with his devastating fighting ability and will now follow in his doppelgänger’s footsteps when he steps into the BRAVE CF cage for the first time, in a Super Lightweight bout, against Lebanon’s Farah.
The world-renowned Chimaev started his BRAVE CF journey in 2018 and has become an icon of the sport after dominating with a 10-fight win streak against elite athletes.
With just five days away from Maaev’s BRAVE CF debut, the 23-year-old star is excited about using Chimaev’s template, hungry to follow in his footsteps by competing against the best in the world and climbing the rungs all the way to the top.
“I don’t pick easy opponents. I want the worthiest opponents in order to put on spectacular fights. People love that. My goal is to become the best,” says Maaev, who is unbeaten in three pro fights thus far.
Sharing the same nickname, ‘Borz’ also mirrors a lot of his older look-a-like’s fighting style with that ruthless wrestling and elite cardio, but aims to show the world that he’s got knockout power, too.
“I am a basic wrestler, but I can fight in the stand-up, as well. Every wrestler has punching power. I can knock people out, and I plan on showing BRAVE Nation fans this on June 19. “I can’t wait,” added Maaev, who finished all his bouts within the first round via stoppage.
Maaev has the opportunity to showcase his ability on the most-global MMA platform when he takes on a praised Lebanese figure in Farah, who is respected in the boxing fraternity after securing five Lebanese boxing championships before transitioning to MMA, where he looks to elevate his nation ever further inside the BRAVE CF cage.
