A FOOD truck in East Riffa has apparently wowed the kingdom’s citizens – and others from neighbouring GCC countries – with its unique ice cream offering but has also created a traffic nightmare.
People from all over Bahrain and, reportedly, other Gulf countries are making a beeline for said food truck every day, resulting in a huge line of cars that snakes back to a traffic signal on the main road, nearly a kilometre away. The folks queuing up for the ice cream are apparently unmindful of the fact that other drivers on that road might not want to be stuck in that traffic jam. Some might be heading home, some to work, some might need to get somewhere in an emergency but the ice-cream aficionados don’t seem to care – they continue to block the road all evening, starting at five in the evening every day and extending well past midnight.
Perhaps, the authorities might need to regulate the traffic in that area and tell those creating that hindrance to make that queue on the shoulder of that road rather than squarely in the middle?
By all accounts, this madness is going to continue for the rest of the summer. Those of us who have to commute on that road for reasons other than satisfying an urge to taste a different flavour of ice cream would greatly appreciate a little consideration on the part of the drivers who are lining up to savour that delicacy.
