Interactive workshops encompassing a variety of fun-filled activities are back at Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiques (Baca).
A traditional wood-engraving workshop will cover a range of topics including types of tools in the engraving process and how to use them, and learning different types of heritage inscriptions.
Once trainees complete the workshop, they should have created a newly-constructed wooden piece.
The workshop will take place from Sunday to Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm.
A palm frond weaving workshop will teach children traditional handicrafts, practised by women to make household accessories and tools, from dining mats and storage baskets – to small dishes and handheld fans. The workshop will continue for two hours from 10am to 12pm on Sunday at the House of Basket Weaving for children aged seven to 12.
A pottery workshop will introduce participants on how to paint on pottery. Pottery is significant to Bahrain’s history and has been made for thousands of years.
Children aged six to 14 will focus on topics including preparing pottery dishes, working with an array of colours on different types of surfaces, learning about special colouring techniques, recognising the mass, unity and balance in the work of art and understanding textures.
The workshop will be staged from 10am to 12pm on Saturday.
