Cameron Heinig, an 18-year-old from New York, has etched his name in the Guinness World Records by successfully catching a tennis ball dropped from a staggering height of 469.5 feet. This remarkable achievement, realised with the help of his friend and drone pilot Julian, surpassed the previous record by a significant margin of 75.4 feet.
Their journey towards this record-breaking moment spanned two summers, filled with unwavering determination and relentless practice. Initially, the ball consistently eluded Cameron's grasp, but their strategic shift to using a baseball glove during practice sessions proved to be a game-changer.
As Cameron's barehanded catching skills improved, he decided to ditch the glove, despite concerns about potential pain. The official record attempt encountered a brief delay when the surveyor tasked with measuring the drone's height deemed the flying device too small for accurate measurement. To ensure precision, the drone was modified to include a reflector.
On the day of the official attempt, Cameron's perseverance paid off. He triumphantly caught the tennis ball on his third try, and the surveyor verified the release height of 469.5 feet.
"I was a little worried that it would hurt, but I figured it was worth it for a Guinness World Records title," he said, reflecting on his remarkable achievement.
