Qantas Airways Limited has announced the launch date for the first-ever direct flight from Sydney to London, set for the first half of 2027. This historic flight, called Project Sunrise, will allow passengers to experience two sunrises during the 20-hour journey. Covering a distance of 17,015 kilometres, it will be the longest non-stop passenger service in the world, surpassing Singapore Airlines’ route from Singapore to New York.
To enhance passenger comfort, Qantas will introduce 12 new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reducing the standard capacity from 300 to 238 seats to provide more legroom. A "wellness zone" will be available for all travellers, featuring exercise routines and hydration stations.
In first class, passengers will enjoy an armchair that converts into a bed, with private storage and a 32-inch HD screen and a tablet to control temperature, humidity, and lighting. Business class will offer seats 25 inches wide that convert into 6-foot-5 beds, with secluded suites and an 18-inch screen for in-flight entertainment. Premium economy will feature a 40-inch seat with winged headrests, a calf rest, and a 13.3-inch screen, while economy will have a 3-3-3 layout with a 33-inch pitch, adjustable headrests, and the same entertainment screen as premium economy.
