East Riffa Secondary School team opened their Nasser Bin Hamad Football Tournament for Secondary Schools campaign on a high note, defeating British School of Bahrain 5-0 in a Group 4 game at Al Ittihad Club.
Mohammed Al Shaikhani scored a hat-trick for the winners while Ahmed Tariq and Rashid Suraj netted a goal each. Al Shaikhani’s exceptional performance earned him the ‘man of the match’ title.
Meanwhile, in a thrilling encounter, Al Taawon Secondary School held off Bahrain School 2-1 in their Group 1 match.
The match, held at Bahrain School’s football field, showcased intense competition and exceptional performances from both teams. Al Taawon’s substitute player Mohammed Saeed was the hero of the day as he rescued his team from a potential draw by scoring a crucial goal in the final minute. Saeed’s late strike sealed the fate of the match, granting Al Taawon a hard-earned victory.
Hassan Habib had earlier opened the scoring for Al Taawon with a well-taken goal. On the other side, Bahrain School’s Ounel found the back of the net to keep the game closely contested. Ali Hameed of Al Taawon was named the man of the match.
In another Group 1 clash, Nasser Vocational Training Centre edged Bayan School of Bahrain with a solitary goal at Al Ahli Club stadium.
The decisive goal of the match was scored by Ammar Al Basri, whose clinical finish proved crucial in the tightly contested match. Al Basri was named the man of the match.
The tournament, being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has been organised by the Education Ministry and backed by platinum sponsor National Bank of Bahrain and gold sponsors ELM Education Fund, GMI, Ahli United Bank and First Motors. The bronze sponsors are Sara Group, Engineer Transportation Company, Be Sport, the Palace Project, Bahrain Cinema (Cineco), Kuwait Finance House, Planera Holding and Mena Company.
